JUCO Recruiting and Transfer Help From a Former Junior College Recruiting Coordinator
Junior college can be one of the smartest paths in college sports, or a detour if it's handled poorly. Chase Grant ran recruiting at a California community college for six years. He knows this path from the inside.
Money-back guarantee. $3,000 of it only when your athlete gets a roster spot.

Why JUCO is a real path, not a consolation prize
Junior college gives athletes something hard to find anywhere else: a chance to play right away, develop physically, prove themselves academically and get recruited again in a year or two. For a late bloomer, an athlete who needs to raise their grades, or one who wasn't seen enough in high school, it can open doors that weren't there at 17 or 18.
It's also a common route for college transfers. Athletes who end up at a four-year school that isn't the right fit, whether because of playing time, coaching changes, cost or academics, often use junior college to reset and get recruited again.
Insight from someone who did the JC recruiting job
Chase Grant spent six years as the recruiting coordinator at Palomar College, a California community college. He evaluated incoming athletes, recruited them, and helped athletes move on to four-year programs. Before that, he was a Division I player. Today he's a long-time San Diego-area coach and college professor with a network of current and former college coaches and mentors.
That gives families a rare advantage: guidance from someone who knows what junior college coaches look for when they build a roster, and what four-year coaches look for when they recruit JUCO athletes.
Understanding the junior college landscape
- NJCAA programs exist across much of the country, and many can offer athletic scholarships depending on their division and sport.
- California community colleges (CCCAA) don't offer athletic scholarships, but they're affordable, close to home for many families, and well-scouted by four-year programs.
- Sport availability varies. Not every two-year college sponsors every sport, and some sports are offered at far fewer junior colleges than others, so lacrosse families in particular should check which schools sponsor their sport.
- Playing time and development vary widely. The right JC is one where your athlete will get real minutes, solid coaching and support staying on track academically.
- Academics drive the next step. Earning the right credits and grades is what makes an athlete eligible and attractive to four-year programs later.
Rules and eligibility requirements change, so we always confirm the current details for your athlete's sport and situation.

Help for transfers
If your athlete is already in college and things aren't working, it isn't the end of the road. We help transferring athletes figure out what went wrong, what they need in the next program, and which path makes the most sense: junior college, another four-year program, or a different level altogether. Transfers are time-sensitive and transfer windows differ by sport, so the earlier we talk, the more options your athlete will have.
Questions every family should ask before choosing a junior college
- How many players at my athlete's position are returning, and where does the coach see my athlete fitting in as a freshman?
- How many athletes from the program have moved on to four-year schools in recent years, and at what levels?
- What academic support is available to keep athletes on track to transfer with the right credits?
- What does the training, strength and development program look like?
- What will it actually cost to attend, including housing if my athlete is moving away from home?
Coaches who are confident in their program will be happy to answer. Having someone in your corner who has sat in that coach's chair makes it much easier to read between the lines.
The offer for JUCO athletes and transfers

How we work with JUCO and transfer athletes
- Honest assessment. Where your athlete is now, on the field and in the classroom, and what would make them recruitable at the next level.
- Choosing the right JC or next school. Fit, playing time, coaching, academics, cost and transfer track record.
- A two-step plan. For JUCO athletes, we plan for both the junior college decision and the four-year move that follows.
- Coach conversations. We help your athlete communicate clearly and use our network to open doors.
- Decision support. Comparing offers, aid and academic fit when the time comes.
What families say
“We did not really know the landscape of how to play at the next level, and we finally found the blueprint of someone who cares and gave us that info in a genuine way.”
“This was super beneficial for my son as he really developed over the course of his high school career and received a d2 scholarship. I do not know where he would be without the guidance and expertise of a real college coach and former pro player.”
“Chase single handedly helped my son get into college. He wasn't the biggest or fastest kid, but with his guidance and network it made a huge difference and opened up an opportunity that might not have been there.”
Frequently asked questions
Is junior college a good option for college athletes?
For many athletes it is. JUCO offers immediate playing time, development, a chance to improve academically and a second recruiting window for four-year programs.
Do junior colleges offer athletic scholarships?
Many NJCAA programs can offer athletic scholarships depending on division and sport. California community colleges (CCCAA) don't offer athletic scholarships, but they're affordable and well-scouted.
Do all junior colleges offer every sport?
No. Sport sponsorship varies by school and region, and some sports are offered at far fewer two-year colleges than others. We'll help you find programs that sponsor your athlete's sport.
Can you help my athlete transfer from a four-year school?
Yes. We help transferring athletes evaluate options, including junior college, another four-year program or a different level, and get in front of the right coaches. The earlier we start, the better.
