Two kinds of transfers, two different playbooks

Junior college to four-year. This is a well-worn path. Four-year coaches often recruit junior college athletes because they bring college experience and are closer to ready. The keys are performing, staying on track academically so credits transfer, and getting in front of the right programs before rosters fill.

Four-year to four-year (or to JUCO). Athletes leave programs for playing time, coaching changes, academics, cost or simply fit. The transfer portal and the rules around it differ by division and sport, and they've changed several times in recent years, so getting the current rules right is step one.

Rules first: check before you move

NCAA transfer rules, notification windows and eligibility requirements vary by division and sport, and NAIA and junior college associations have their own rules. Before your athlete enters a portal or commits anywhere, confirm the current rules with the compliance office at the current school and the governing body. A wrong step can cost a season.

Academics matter just as much: transferable credits, progress toward a degree and GPA can all affect eligibility and admissions.

How we help transfer athletes

  1. Honest evaluation of where your athlete fits now, based on college-level film and results.
  2. A targeted list of programs with real needs at your athlete's position, across Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior college.
  3. Story and video. We help your athlete explain the move clearly and present current film.
  4. Introductions to coaches through people they trust, which carries extra weight when timelines are short.
  5. Decision support on offers, aid, credits and playing time.

Why junior college experience matters here

The Athlete Market is led by Chase Grant, a former Division I player who spent six years as the recruiting coordinator at Palomar College and has coached in the San Diego area for many years. He's also a college professor, and he has built a network of current and former college coaches and mentors who take his call.

Running recruiting at a California community college for six years meant helping athletes move on to four-year programs at every level. He knows what four-year coaches look for in a transfer and how to position an athlete for that move. Read more in our JUCO recruiting guide.

Pricing and guarantees for transfers

Our price is published and the same in every sport: $6,000 total per family. You pay $3,000 upfront, and the other $3,000 only when your athlete signs with a school or earns a college roster spot. If your athlete doesn't get a college roster spot, you get your money back. If your athlete suffers a career-ending injury, you get your money back. We walk through the full terms on your free call.

Transfer athletes get the same offer as everyone else. Half our fee waits until your athlete has a new home, because we think that's the fair way to do it.

Mistakes transfer athletes make

  • Leaving before checking the rules. Entering a portal or withdrawing without confirming eligibility and windows can cost a season or a scholarship.
  • Waiting to be found. Being listed in a portal doesn't mean the right coaches will call. Proactive outreach still matters.
  • Ignoring academics. Credits that don't transfer can delay eligibility and graduation.
  • Chasing the same kind of fit that didn't work. If playing time or coaching style was the problem, the next school should solve it.
  • Telling the story poorly. Coaches will ask why your athlete is leaving. A clear, honest, positive answer matters.

We help your athlete avoid each of these, so the next move is the right one.

Timing: move early

Transfer recruiting moves fast, and the best spots go to athletes who are prepared before windows open. If a transfer is even a possibility, start the conversation early so you know your options and the rules before decisions get rushed. A free 30-minute call is a good first step.

What families say

“We did not really know the landscape of how to play at the next level, and we finally found the blueprint of someone who cares and gave us that info in a genuine way.”
Jen Williams (parent)
“Chase single handedly helped my son get into college. He wasn't the biggest or fastest kid, but with his guidance and network it made a huge difference and opened up an opportunity that might not have been there.”
Dave Martinez (parent)
“This was super beneficial for my son as he really developed over the course of his high school career and received a d2 scholarship. I do not know where he would be without the guidance and expertise of a real college coach and former pro player.”
Jeff Walker (parent)

Frequently asked questions

Do you help junior college athletes transfer to four-year schools?

Yes. Chase spent six years as the recruiting coordinator at Palomar College, where helping athletes move on to four-year programs was part of the job.

Do you help athletes leaving a four-year program?

Yes. We help four-year athletes find a better fit at any level, including Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior college.

How does the transfer portal work?

Rules and windows vary by division and sport and have changed in recent years. Always confirm current rules with your school's compliance office and the governing body before acting.

Will my athlete's credits transfer?

It depends on the schools involved. Credit transfer affects both eligibility and admissions, so check with the receiving school's admissions office early.

How much does transfer recruiting help cost?

$6,000 total per family: $3,000 upfront and $3,000 only when your athlete signs with a school or earns a college roster spot, with money back if there's no roster spot or after a career-ending injury.

When should a transfer athlete reach out to you?

As early as possible, ideally before entering a portal or committing to a move, so the plan and the rules are clear.

Which sports do you help with?

Baseball, softball, football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, and men's and women's basketball.
